A Clean Bathroom in 5 easy steps.
Step one: Throw out any old make-up that’s been around for a while, as they can harbour bacteria. The rule of thumb is:
- Mascara 3 months
- Foundation 1 year
- Creamy Blush 1 year and Powder Blush 2 years
- Eyeliner 1 year Liquid Eyeliner 4 months
- Perfume 10 years
- Lipstick 1 year
- Nail polish 2 years
Step two: Throw away any moisturizers that have been opened and not used for a year. Also treatment products like serums and vitamin C will only last a year after being opened. Masks unopened will last 2-3 years but opened masks only last a year.
Step Three: Clean out your cupboards and wipe down all surface areas with a non-toxic spray and wipe, I love Attitude All Purpose Cleaner or Earth Choice Bathroom and Shower cleaner.
Step Four: Look for mould around your bathroom. Mould can cause throat irritation, nasal stuffiness, eye irritation, coughing and wheezing. I like CLR Mold and Mildew cleaner or in a spray bottle mix: 4 drops of Tea tree and 4 drops of Clove oil mix with 1 cup of water and 1 cup of vinegar and spray on the mould and leave overnight. Ventilation is key to keeping mould at bay.
Step Five: Add a Plant, like the Peace Lily which is known for its ability to absorb moisture and purifies the air of contaminants. It also doesn’t need much watering or light. Note: It is toxic if ingested, so keep away from animals and small kids.
