Finding shampoos without chemicals is harder than I thought.

I love the fact that the Australian Law requires the labelling of ingredients, which made me realize how hard it is to find a shampoo that doesn’t have chemicals. I’ve spent hours going through every shampoo in Coles, Woollies, Priceline, reading the ingredients list and most of them have little nasties that I’d like to keep away from my skin.

Even shampoos that claim they’re Organic, SLS free, sulfate-free or claim to be green, still have chemicals that can mess with your hormones and strip your hair of any good oils. I’ve come across some shampoos that were good but they cost anywhere from $20 to $60 for a small bottle…who in their right mind would pay that?? That’s ridiculous! So then you’re left with the standard Pantene, Dove etc which have so many harsh chemicals let alone fragrance, which messes with your hormones, metabolism and can cause migraines. The problem with most shampoos is they contain:

  • Sodium Laureth Sulfate
  • Fragrance
  • PEG’s
  • Quaternium-15
  • Dimethicone
  • Phenoxyethanol

These are just a few ingredients that cause harm or can cause harm over time and there are so many more but I seriously don’t want to bore you with them. So I’ve listed some of the shampoos I’ve found that don’t have nasties in them and so far they are Rahua, Yarok, Grahams, Sukin and Dr Bronner. They range from $7 to $25 and I can find some online and some at Coles, Chemist Warehouse and Priceline.

I will continue my search because we all need to watch what we put on our skin as these chemicals used in our daily routine are absorbed into us and a lot of the time we have no idea how the chemicals are made and how they interact with our bodies.
