The fresh scent of chemicals.

The fresh scent of chemicals.

In my earlier article I talked about the importance of indoor air quality and simple steps to improving it. So just imagine you come home and open the front door, or your teenagers bedroom, or better yet the bathroom and woosh! you get blown over by the stale, stinky air that’s been waiting for you. Do you open the window and spray air freshener and hope that the smell disappears quickly? I hope not because that air freshener is more toxic than a dogs fart! Air fresheners contain a concoction of chemicals to mask bad smells and make your room smell like an Autumn breeze, but manufacturers are not required to disclose all their ingredients. Through rigorous testing these ingredients were found in everyday air fresheners, even ones that claim to be “green” –  Phtalates (a hormone disrupting chemical)1,4-Dichlorobenzene (a pesticide that has been “reasonably anticipated” to be a carcinogen) Fragrances (made up of over 2,000 different chemicals) to name but a dangerous few. Just these few mentioned can wreak havoc on your body and when inhaled, it goes straight into your bloodstream and accumulates in your fat tissues. So please get rid of those air fresheners and instead open windows, use a diffuser and a few drops of organic essential oils or simply have fresh flowers. You’ll feel much better for it 🙂
