Spring is my favourite time of year, new life, new growth, longer days and cool evenings. It’s also the time of year to dust off winter and bring fresh air into the home. What I like to do is Spring Clean the house of toxins, chemicals and a few sneaky products that you may have brought in over winter. This is what I do and I’ll break this up in 3 parts over the next few weeks.
- Open Windows – Go through the house and open all the windows to circulate the stale air and help with reducing indoor air pollution.
- Dust – Get a Microfiber cloth and a spray bottle, I like to add a few drops of lemon essential oil to the water, and spray onto dusty areas and wipe down with the cloth to capture the dust. Do this from top to bottom of every room.
- Change your AC Filters – if it hasn’t been changed in the last 4 months, to a MERV 12 rating or above, as they will filter most of the tiny nasties in the air.
Alsotake out your air vents and wash with warm soapy water.
- Declutter Beauty Products – I loved watching Marie Kondo on Netflix and it inspired me to declutter all my clothes and then I thought why not declutter cleaning and beauty products as well! It was so overwhelming decluttering my beauty products, I have so much from subscription boxes but I did the same principle which is: Pick up each item and ask yourself if it brings you joy (I also asked myself if I really needed it) and if it doesn’t bring joy and I don’t need it, thank it and get rid of it. When you have whittled down your beauty products, just check the ingredients and make sure that it doesn’t contain the following: Parabens, Fragrance, Phthalates, Sodium lauryl sulfate, Formaldehyde (
methanal) and Toluene…if it does, chuck it out those chemicals aren’t going to do you any favours.
So that’s it for now and next time I’ll take you through cleaning products and some more Spring Cleaning! Have an awesome week and let the outside air in 🙂
